Our mission is to create an inclusive and supportive surfing community on the Gold Coast, where innovation, safety, and connection thrive.
Through meaningful, water-based experiences, we deliver surf education that fosters health, confidence, and well-being.
Brainwaves Surf Therapy was founded in 2022 by Byron Hoskins in his hometown of Burleigh Heads, driven by his deep commitment to the ocean and community.
With 15+ years of experience, Byron's worn many hats—from managing the 2024 Surfing Australia Irukanjis Parasurfing Team to a Bronze medal, to serving as a Gold Coast City Council lifeguard, Burleigh Boardriders Vice President, dedicated support worker and a weekly Men's Group host. He’s helped countless people find joy, confidence, and connection through surfing and nature.
Today, Byron continues to lead Brainwaves Surf Therapy, coach members of the Gold Coast Parasurfing Boardriders, and actively contribute to local surf events.
Based on the Gold Coast, Brett is a registered psychologist with 40+ years of experience and a firm belief in the ocean’s healing power. His wisdom and guidance play a major role in shaping our programs.
With a vast pool of knowledge and a deep understanding of people from all walks of life, Brett brings a compassionate, grounded approach to everything we do. He’s our go-to guru behind the scenes—and we’re incredibly grateful to have him on board.
